What is it About?

In the Johto Region, humans and pokemon live together in harmony. This ideal clashes as a mysterious force begins to take away those in critical condition or have recently passed away. This phenomena, a "Nuzlocke," has only begun occuring a few months ago.

Human trainers don't appear to be doing much to solve the issue just yet, a wild sentret takes it upon himself to solve this and be deemed a hero.

His companions realize that this issue isn't quite as simple as it seems. A pidgey, Wyvern, makes a catastrophic mistake that reveals the gravity of the situation. Then there's Tala, a cyndaquil wakes up from a world where humans don't exist. The arrival of her and a mysterious egg might have a greater connection to the Nuzlocke than anyone could have realized.

It's recommended to have a basic knowledge of the Pokemon franchise before reading.

RETCON: it no longer takes place in 1999.

What is a Nuzlocke?

The plot is loosely based on a Nuzlocke playthrough of Pokemon SoulSilver in 2014.

A nuzlocke is a set of player-defined rules intended to make the mainline Pokemon games more challenging. It was named after the first pokemon to have "died," a nuzleaf.

The rules I used were:

• You can only catch the first pokemon you find on each route. If you fail that catch, you can't try again.
• You have to nickname each pokemon.
• If a pokemon faints in-game, it's considered "dead" and can't be used anymore.
• If no living pokemon can use an HM for progressing the story, a dead pokemon (or something separately caught from the 1st route rule) can sub-in, but cannot participate in battle.

Disclaimers

• I started this story in 2015. The plot and art style have gone through many changes since then.
• It has been on many hiatuses due to perfectionism woes, mental health, and life in general. Especially from 2020-today.
• The plot might not make much sense and that's okay. It is a passion project.
• I don't plan on or anticipate making money from this.
• Pokemon belongs to Nintendo and GameFreak.
